About Twilight Tastings: Our Beer Tasting Experience in the Heart of Downtown Boston
Twilight Tastings was created just over a year ago, when one of our Taproom managers took on the challenge of crafting an experience that would resonate with both locals and visitors alike. "When I started here at the Taproom, I knew my first project was bringing an experience to this location," manager Shane Olesen explains. "Given our space, a full-on tour wouldn't have the impact we wanted, so I thought about what we do have: an incredible selection of exclusive beers, a wealth of beer knowledge, and a Private Dining room rich in the company's history. The pieces were all there for something special."With that, the concept of Twilight Tastings was born: an intimate, immersive experience that celebrates the art of brewing, the rich history of the company, and the vibrant culture of beer. We took a moment to ask Shane about the program and why we invite you to join us at our Tasting Table:
A Passion for Brewing Meets the Taproom
Before spearheading the Twilight Tastings program, our Taproom Manager, Shane, served as a Tour Guide and Senior Brewery Ambassador at our brewery for over a year and a half. "I was fortunate to have some great leaders and team members who showed me just how much beer has to offer," he recalls. "Its rich history, countless styles, and versatility with food made it clear to me that I wanted to bring that knowledge and passion to our guests Downtown." That experience laid the groundwork for Twilight Tastings, where the aim is to chat about beer knowledge and its history into a 45-minute session that's both educational and enjoyable while sipping on some brews.
What to Expect at Twilight Tastings
During your visit, you’ll enjoy a selection of 9 beers, beginning with a taster to kick off the experience. You'll be served 8 more beers, with 7 being 5-ounce pours and one being an 8-ounce pour. Each tasting is complemented by a serving of pretzels for your group and a brief tour of our brewhouse.
The real highlight, however, is the opportunity to sit down with one of our seasoned team members in our exclusive 1984 Room — a private dining space adorned with the rich history of our company, namely our founder Jim Koch. Here, you can ask any questions about our beers, the company, or anything else that comes to mind. "We train our team members to make the tasting their own," Shane explains, "so each experience will be a little different from the last." And for those who appreciate variety, our tasting selection frequently rotates, ensuring that no two visits are the same.

Tucked away in the 1984 Room, guests are surrounded by the company’s history while being guided by one of our Senior Team Members. This exclusive experience is designed to be both informative and interactive, with the goal of demystifying beer and enhancing your appreciation for it.
"We want our guests to leave feeling more confident when they look at a beer menu," our manager says. "Instead of being overwhelmed, they should understand the difference between a New England IPA and a West Coast IPA, or a Porter and a Dunkel. And they’ll also get a glimpse into what life at Sam Adams is like."
